Non-Surgical Options<\/h2>\n

Radiation Therapy<\/h3>\n

Radiation therapy is a cancer treatment that uses high-energy x-rays or other types of radiation to kill cancer cells. There are two types of radiation therapy. External radiation therapy uses a machine outside the body to send radiation toward the cancer. Internal radiation therapy uses a radioactive substance sealed in needles, seeds, wires or catheters that are placed directly into or near the cancer. The way the radiation therapy is given depends on the type and stage of the cancer being treated.<\/p>\n

Hormone Therapy<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Hormone therapy is a cancer treatment that removes hormones or blocks their action and stops cancer cells from growing. Hormones are substances produced by glands in the body and circulated in the bloodstream. The presence of some hormones can cause certain cancers to grow. If tests show that the cancer cells have places where hormones can attach (receptors), drugs, surgery or radiation therapy are used to reduce the production of hormones or block them from working.<\/p>\n

Chemotherapy<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Chemotherapy is a cancer treatment that uses drugs to stop the growth of cancer cells, either by killing the cells or by stopping the cells from dividing. Chemotherapy can be either systemic, reaching cancer cells throughout the body via the bloodstream, or regional, targeting cancer cells in specific body parts or areas. The method chosen depends on the type and stage of the cancer being treated.1<\/sup><\/p>\n

    [\/vc_column_text][vc_separator][vc_column_text]Serious complications may occur in any surgery, including da Vinci<\/em>\u00ae<\/sup> Surgery, up to and including death. Examples of serious or life-threatening complications, which may require prolonged and\/or unexpected hospitalization and\/or reoperation, include but are not limited to, one or more of the following: injury to tissues\/organs, bleeding, infection and internal scarring that can cause long-lasting dysfunction\/pain. Risks of surgery also include the potential for equipment failure and\/or human error. Individual surgical results may vary.<\/p>\n

    Risks specific to minimally invasive surgery, including da Vinci<\/em> Surgery, include but are not limited to, one or more of the following: temporary pain\/nerve injury associated with positioning; temporary pain\/discomfort from the use of air or gas in the procedure; a longer operation and time under anesthesia and conversion to another surgical technique. If your doctor needs to convert the surgery to another surgical technique, this could result in a longer operative time, additional time under anesthesia, additional or larger incisions and\/or increased complications.<\/p>\n

    Patients who are not candidates for non-robotic minimally invasive surgery are also not candidates for da Vinci<\/em>Surgery. Patients should talk to their doctor to decide if da Vinci<\/em> Surgery is right for them.
