If you have been diagnosed with fibroids, your doctor may recommend a procedure known as uterine fibroid embolization (UFE).<\/p>\n<h3>Types of Uterine Fibroids include:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Subserosal Fibroids &#8211;<\/strong> They develop on the outside covering of the uterus. Usually they will not affect a woman\u2019s menstrual flow can cause pressure, pelvic pain and back pain.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Intramural Fibroids &#8211;<\/strong> They develop within the uterus and are the most common fibroids to occur in women. They can cause heavier menstrual bleeding, pelvic pain, back pain and pressure which is a common symptom in women.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Submucosal Fibroids &#8211;<\/strong> They develop under the lining of the uterus. These type of fibroids are not as common but are known to be the most problematic. They can cause a very heavy menstrual flow, and extended periods.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Uterine Fibroid Embolization Treatment<\/h2>\n<p>Uterine fibroid embolization, is a minimally invasive treatment for fibroid tumors of the uterus. This Uterine Fibroids treatment is also known as uterine artery embolization (UAE). Examples of serious or life-threatening complications, which may require prolonged and\/or unexpected hospitalization and\/or reoperation, include but are not limited to, one or more of the following: injury to tissues\/organs, bleeding, infection and internal scarring that can cause long-lasting dysfunction\/pain. Risks of surgery also include the potential for equipment failure and\/or human error. Individual surgical results may vary.<\/p>\n<p>Risks specific to minimally invasive surgery, including <em>da Vinci<\/em> Surgery, include but are not limited to, one or more of the following: temporary pain\/nerve injury associated with positioning; temporary pain\/discomfort from the use of air or gas in the procedure; a longer operation and time under anesthesia and conversion to another surgical technique. If your doctor needs to convert the surgery to another surgical technique, this could result in a longer operative time, additional time under anesthesia, additional or larger incisions and\/or increased complications.<\/p>\n<p>Patients who are not candidates for non-robotic minimally invasive surgery are also not candidates for <em>da Vinci<\/em>Surgery.
